J Suture-On Crystal This transducer consists of a piezoelectric crystal bonded with medical grade silicone to a pad of closely-woven acrylic 2 cm in diameter. The crystal is approximately 1 mm diameter and is encased in medical grade epoxy with an epoxy lens. These transducers are used in pairs or in conjunction with other crystals of the same frequency. They can be sutured to the adventitial surface of vessels or opposite sides of the ventrical for distances from 1.0 mm to 100 mm.

| Model JB Sonomicrometer Crystal This transducer consists of a piezoelectric crystal mounted in the end of a cylinder of medical grade epoxy 1.0 mm in diameter by 10.0 mm in length. The crystal is approximately 1 mm diameter and is encased in medical grade epoxy with an epoxy lens. This transducer is primarily used for experiments with muscle stretch. The Teflon guide/handle allows the crystal (mounted in the plane of the handle) to be inserted into stab wounds in muscle. Two of these crystals facing each other measure distance. Model JB is generally used in pairs, but can also be used in conjunction with other sonomicrometer transducers of the same frequency.

Suction-On Sonomicrometer Crystal The cup of this transducer is molded of silicone. The piezoelectric crystal is a hemisphere approximately 5 mm in diameter. The crystal is encased in medical grade epoxy. The vacuum line is made of silastic tubing 40 cm long and terminates in a standard luer female hub. Under a light vacuum of approximately 10 mm Hg the unit pulls down onto a blood vessel. The special large piezoelectric crystal used in this transducer facilitates diameter measurements on large structures such as the left ventricle. It is used in acute studies. The transducers can be placed up to 100 mm apart and are very easy to focus due to their omnidirectional nature.

| Models BS & CS (patented)
Suction-On Crystals Models BS & CS are identical to figures B & C other than the mounting of the crystal. The crystal is mounted in a plane with the surface. See the Doppler Probe section of the catalog for a description of the construction of figures BS & CS.
